UPCOMING ELECTIONS

As part of the FirstOntario Credit Union family, Saven Financial members have the right to run in FirstOntario’s annual Board of Directors Election. This is your opportunity to support our continued success by choosing the fellow members you feel will best fill important roles on the Board of Directors.

Electronic Voting Period: Monday, February 5 to Monday, March 4, 2024
Annual General Meeting: Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Stay tuned for more information.
Board of Directors Election 2024

The Candidate Search Period for the 2024 Board of Directors Election is now over.

Candidates for FirstOntario’s Board of Directors election will be announced on February 5, 2024 and voting will begin on this date. For this election, there are four vacancies on the Board. The candidates with the four highest vote results will be elected for a three-year term.

Saven Financial Members will be able to vote in this election in two different ways:


  1. Vote electronically online

  2. Vote through the Saven Financial smartphone app

Candidates

FirstOntario is a successful financial institution with over $5 billion in assets under management. The credit union regulator, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario, requires that qualified members with the necessary experience serve on FirstOntario’s Board of Directors.

FirstOntario’s Board of Directors will be interviewing all candidates for this election and will endorse the candidates they believe will bring the needed qualifications and experience to best serve on your Board as set out by our regulator and credit union. We ask that you please take into consideration the Board’s endorsed candidates when casting your votes.


Election Results

Election results will be announced at FirstOntario’s virtual Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. All Saven Financial members are welcome to attend.

UPCOMING ELECTIONS

As part of the FirstOntario Credit Union family, Saven Financial members have the democratic right to run in FirstOntario’s annual Board of Directors Election. This is your opportunity to personally contribute to our continued success.

Candidate Search Period: Monday, November 6 until noon on Monday, December 4, 2023
Voting Period: Monday, February 5 to Monday, March 4, 2024
Annual General Meeting: Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Stay tuned for more information.

For this election, there are four vacancies on the Board. After the Voting Period, the four candidates with the most votes will be elected for a three-year term. Interested members, including previous candidates, are strongly encouraged to run for election.


QUALIFICATIONS

FirstOntario is a successful financial institution with over $5 billion in assets under management. The credit union regulator, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario, requires that qualified members with the necessary experience serve on FirstOntario’s Board of Directors. To qualify to run for election to FirstOntario’s Board of Directors, members must be 18 years of age or older, have been a personal member of Saven Financial for the past three years and have both governance and financial literacy experience. You must also meet the qualification requirements outlined in the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act and FirstOntario’s By-laws. All required qualifications will be reviewed during the mandatory information sessions that are being held for interested members.

This year, in addition to governance and financial literacy experience, the Board is seeking candidates with experience in risk management oversight, audit and compliance oversight and information technology governance. A Director with an accounting designation is also being sought.


THE ELECTION PROCESS

Members who possess governance and financial literacy experience with any of the additional competencies indicated above, may be endorsed to stand for election. These candidates will be highlighted on the ballot as being endorsed for election by your Board of Directors. Members who meet the minimum qualifications will not be endorsed but may remain on the ballot if they so wish.


MANDATORY INFORMATION SESSIONS

Members interested in running for a position on FirstOntario’s Board of Directors MUST register to attend one of the mandatory information sessions being offered below. These information sessions will be held electronically via WebEx.

Information sessions will be held on:

  • Monday, November 6, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.

  • Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.

  • Monday, November 13, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.

To attend an information session, please send an email to Elections@FirstOntario.com indicating your full name and which information session you will be attending. Once we receive your email, we will provide you with the details to join the electronic information session.

Please Note: You will need access to a computer, tablet, or smartphone to attend an electronic information session.

Members who attend an electronic information session will receive a Candidate Package, which MUST be completed and submitted along with the required attachments by noon on Monday, December 4, 2023.
