Board of Directors Elections 2026

Member Alert: Update Regarding Board of Directors Election

We wish to inform members that Matthew Perri, a candidate in the current Board of Directors election, has withdrawn their candidacy effective February 17, 2026. The candidate has withdrawn due to a change in personal circumstances. Voting opened on February 2 and will continue as scheduled until March 2, 2026. To ensure fairness and consistency for all members, including those who have already cast their ballots, the election process will continue unchanged. Ballots already submitted remain valid. The candidate's name will remain on issued ballots. We thank all candidates for their willingness to serve and appreciate members' participation in the governance of their credit union.

Voting is now open for FirstOntario's Board of Directors election. Saven Financial members in good standing as of January 28, 2026 are eligible to vote in our Board of Directors Election.

For this election, there are four vacancies on the Board. The four candidates with the most votes will be elected for a three-year term.

FirstOntario is a successful financial institution with over $7 billion in assets under management. The credit union regulator, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario, requires that qualified members with the necessary experience serve on FirstOntario's Board of Directors.

To be eligible to serve on FirstOntario's Board of Directors, candidates, at a minimum, must:

  • • Be 18 years of age or older

  • • Be a Saven member in good standing

  • • Have been a member of Saven for the past three years

  • • Meet the requirements from the Credit Unions and Caisses Populaires Act and FirstOntario's By-laws

  • • Have governance experience from previously serving on a Board of Directors or through previous working experience in a governance capacity

  • • Have financial literacy experience

This year, your Board of Directors also established two additional areas of competency that are needed on the Board. These competencies are risk management oversight experience and information technology governance.

FirstOntario's Governance Committee interviewed all candidates for this election and recommended the Board endorse the candidates they believe have the required qualifications and experience to best serve on your Board as set out by our regulator and credit union. We ask that you please take into consideration the Board's endorsed candidates when casting your votes.
